Stand Indivisible AZ – CD1 Protest at Schweikert’s Office – Scottsdale
02/03 @ 8:00 am — 9:00 am

Monday, Feb 9th will be our 52nd consecutive week of peacefully holding CD1 Rep. David Schweikert accountable for his dreadful voting record, his overall lackluster performance, and his refusal to meet with us, his constituents. Join us every Monday, 8-9am as we peacefully continue our demand for Schweikert to do his job.

Register here to help us with an accurate count for planning purposes.

We recommend:

  • Wearing black
  • Having signs asking our electeds to focus on healthcare, jobs, education, SNAP benefits, etc, instead of warfare
  • Bringing non-perishable food, personal care (toothpaste, toothbrushes), and/or household items (paper towels, toilet paper) to help our neighbors in need. To date, this food drive – sponsored by MoveOn – has donated 3 tons of food to the Scottsdale Foodbank.
  • Bringing a letter or a postcard message to drop off at Schweikert’s office
  • The building and parking lot are on private property. Building management has asked us from time to time not to park in their parking lot. so you may want to take advantage of street parking or park in Kohl’s parking lot 1/2 block east on Raintree Rd.

Come any Monday. We are outside David Schweikert’s office from 8-9 am.

Our CD1 Coalition Partners include: Move On, Optimists Resist Indivisible, Stand Indivisible, the Democrats of LD4, LD3, LD2, LD8, LD5, the North Scottsdale Democrats, the Fountain Hills Democratic Club, Fountain Hills Independent Indivisibles, Desert Progressives Indivisible, Swing Left Maricopa County, and Honest Arizona.

Rush-hour Resistance Rally - Park Central @ | | |
START TIME: The event starts at 4:00 pm. You are free to show up anytime, but we recommend arriving a few minutes early to introduce yourself. We end promptly at 5:30 pm. Some attendees meet up afterward at Mi Patio ($4.99 margaritas!), others go to Lix Uptown Ice Cream ($4 scoops!). We’re a friendly bunch.
GATHERING POINT: We gather on all four corners of the intersection, with the primary meeting spot on the northeast corner of 7th Ave & Osborn. Look for the signs. Can’t miss us!
MESSAGING & FOCUS

One of RhRR’s strengths is that people feel free to express themselves. Ideally, your signs would help articulate any of our three pillars:

  • Defending democracy and the rule of law
  • Encouraging voting
  • Protecting neighbors and communities (e.g., immigrants, LGBTQIA+ people, workers, and veterans)

This approach keeps signs aligned with RhRR’s purpose, while preserving personal expression and emotional authenticity.

Flags, banners, and even inflatable costumes are welcome. Some blow lots of bubbles. While our mission is serious, humor and camaraderie matter.

RhRRs are peaceful, public events. Most attendees don’t hide their faces, though some do; participate at your comfort level. Photos and videos are commonly shared on social media, but you can ask posters to remove accidental appearances.

RECOMMENDED PARKING: There’s plenty of parking in the Safeway lot on the NE corner. We haven’t had issues before, but parking enforcement is unpredictable. If concerned, check with others.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION 🚌 Route 8

SPECIAL NOTES 🥵 During hot weather, shade is limited. Bring water, sun protection, and consider a portable chair.

Iran in Focus: Stop Trump’s War @ Virtual
02/03 @ 5:00 pm — 6:00 pm

Over the weekend, the United States and Israel launched airstrikes against Iran, a dangerous escalation that risks dragging us into another devastating, decades-long conflict. This war threatens the lives of U.S. service members, endangers millions of people across the region, and could destabilize the entire Middle East.

We know one thing for sure: more bombs and more war will not bring peace, stability or safety to anyone.
We’ll hear from activists, foreign policy experts, and members of Congress who are calling for immediate de-escalation in Iran and demanding immediate action to rein in Trump.

RSVP to join MoveOn, 50501 and Win Without War for an emergency mass call. Together, we’ll talk about what’s at stake, map out actionable next steps, and launch a nationwide push to tell every elected official: no more endless wars.

Send Postcards to Unregistered Voters who can expand our coalition! – Phoenix @ Fate Brewing Company – Phoenix
02/03 @ 5:30 pm — 7:30 pm

This is a proven, highly effective way to get someone to vote! There are tens of thousands of unregistered voters in Arizona that are likely pro democracy. If we win the House, ICE can be held to publicly account!

We have good work to do together between now and the midterms. This simple, tangible act can change an election. Plus, we have a great time together.

Everyone should come, even if your budget doesn’t have room for stamps. If you can afford postcard stamps, please bring them. If you can bring some extra stamps, we’d sure appreciate it! If you don’t have time to go to the post office, but can afford them, just donate the money for the stamps and we’ll get them for you.

Good food and drink available for purchase.

A core principle behind all Desert Democracy events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.

There were approx. 135 287(g) agreements when Biden left office. There are now 1000+ active agreements in the US and growing under the Trump administration.

  • Mesa PD and ICE have had a 287(g) agreement since 2009
  • Mesa PD has the jail enforcement model of the agreement
  • Reports prove that these agreements lead to racial profiling and civil rights abuses

If you’d like to speak, arrive early (around 4:30pm) and fill out the comment form on the kiosk. You’ll need to be one of the first three speakers to submit their request to speak during public comment.

If you don’t want to speak, when you arrive, submit a comment by using the online QR code, the kiosks at the City Hall, or use this link: https://us.openforms.com/Form/44ff3314-58bb-418a-a122-46fe7725feef
