In these difficult times, it is more and more important to learn the tools of nonviolence. Research has shown that large-scale, organized nonviolent resistance can stop authoritarian takeovers and save our democracy, and it is twice as likely to succeed as violent resistance. Please choose one or more trainings to attend. They will be similar, but you are welcome to attend more than one. Here is what we will cover:
- Principles and practice of nonviolence (Gandhian and Kingian) — Philosophical, historical and tactical — The power of sacrifice — Nonviolence works better than violence — Motivation: tactical vs. moral:
- Action scenarios and role plays, including one or more of: — Blockades/sit-in — Talking to National Guard — Dealing with ICE–This will be the focus of our March 1st training — Protecting elections
- Consensus decision-making — Legal consequences — Support roles
- Please arrive 15 minutes early.
