It Looks Like We Achieved 3.5% Turnout

Today’s No Kings protests were a resounding success. Turnout was higher than expected effectively everywhere. Today wasn’t just important because of a record high turnout, or keeping the pressure on. It was about reaching a specific number of people attending the protests: about 3.5% of the U.S. population. There is a rule with nonviolent protests where a minimum 3.5% of a population actively engaging in those protests and action has always brought about change. It’s called The 3.5% Rule.

With a population of ~340 million, that’s about 12 million people. As the day ends, the latest numbers tallied up from individual protest counts put it at over 11 million.

Our work is not done just because we’ve reached this number—a sustained effort is required. But I just wanted to post a little blurb about this milestone to help get the word out about this achievement. Please take a couple minutes to watch how well we filled up Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza and the AZ Capitol lawn. I had to park several blocks away.
